A day trip works, but with the crossings you get only a few hours in the city – enough for the Old Town, not for much more. You can walk it – the Old Town is small and compact. A guide is worth it for the stories behind the walls and towers, which signs do not tell. Most walking tours here last 1 to 2 hours; expect cobblestones and a climb between the lower town and Toompea hill.
