Jägala Waterfall and Rummu Quarry: Which Day Trip From Tallinn?
4 min read
Jägala is the short trip, Rummu is the long one. Visit Estonia describes Jägala Waterfall as about 8 metres high and more than 50 metres wide, the widest natural waterfall in Estonia. It is a waterfall you see in an hour; the submerged quarry at Rummu and the coast beyond it are a different kind of day. Five tours from Tallinn cover one or the other, and all run with small groups.
Jägala only: two to four hours
The Jägala waterfall and picnic tour costs €99 and lasts two hours, with about an hour at the falls and 30 minutes by van each way. Its page lists a picnic with local snacks, hot tea and a small schnapps, and a group of up to 7. It starts at the Tourist Information Centre at Niguliste 2.
The Jägala and Harju County tour costs €147 and takes four hours. After the falls it goes to Bronze Age coffin graves at Rebala, Saha Chapel (described as the oldest medieval Christian chapel in Estonia) and the Jägala power station, and ends with free time at a seaside restaurant. Lunch there is optional and paid on site, even though the page’s list of inclusions mentions it. The Rebala museum is open only seasonally, roughly May to September; outside that period the visit stays outdoors.
The Jägala and Old Town walking tour costs €109, lasts four hours and splits the time: 30 minutes at the waterfall, then a 1.5-hour guided walk through the Old Town. It offers English and Spanish guiding, a group of up to 8, and pick-up at the Tourist Information Centre or the cruise terminal. Whether food and drinks are included is unclear on the page, so check before you rely on it.
Rummu and the coast: six to seven hours
The Rummu Quarry, coastal cliffs and Keila Waterfall tour costs €125 and takes six hours for up to 7 people. The stops are a coastal walk near Suurupi, Keila Waterfall (30 minutes), Paldiski (a 45-minute break, extra fee), the Pakri cliffs and lighthouse, and Rummu for 45 minutes. The listing says the lighthouse ticket is optional, costs 5 € and is open in summer, and that the lunch stop is at your own expense. It is not suitable for people with mobility impairments.
The Paldiski, Rummu Quarry and coastal cliffs tour costs €110 and takes seven hours, with up to 8 participants. It adds an abandoned missile base and a retired AN-12 aircraft and gives Paldiski 50 minutes. The page says to tell the operator the ages of children in advance so child seats can be ready.
| Tour | Length | Main stops |

Season and what to expect
The two Jägala tours with season notes say they run year-round, but the scenery changes. Jägala freezes only in cold winters, and in milder ones it simply flows. The picnic tour says walking behind the ice wall is possible only when conditions are safe. Wear walking shoes and clothes for the weather; the picnic is outdoors.
Our recommendation
If you have half a day, take the Jägala and Harju County tour for the added history, or the picnic version if you want the shortest outing. If you have a full day and want the strangest scenery, choose the Rummu tour. If you would rather set your own stops, you can compare rental cars for Tallinn.
